13th Annual Champagne Brunch & Auction Sunday, October 12th at the Renaissance Hotel
The Breast Cancer Resource Center is proud to announce Austin writer and raconteur Mary Gordon Spence will be the Guest Speaker for our 13th Annual Champagne Brunch & Auction on Sunday, October 12, 2008.
Longtime friend of the BCRC, Mary Gordon has attended almost every brunch in since its inception and has served as Honorary Chair, Special Guest, Emcee, and Auctioneer. This year she will regale us with her wit and wisdom—guaranteed to delight everyone. Mary Gordon Spence has had a lifetime of magic moments which she celebrates in her book, Finding Magic in the Mundane. Reading the testimonials praising her book is like reading a Who’s Who of famous Texans. With Ann Richards, Molly Ivins, Liz Carpenter and John Aielli adding their endorsements, we know we’re in for a fun read. Even New Yorker Isaiah Sheffer, host of National Public Radio’s Selected Shorts, chimes in by saying, “Mary Gordon Spence shows us in bold, sassy style that the tradition of the wry, observant American Humorist is still very much alive!” A master of diversity, Mary Gordon has lived in Latin America, taught students from kindergarten to college, directed statewide environmental programs, written Texas history materials, drafted legislation, and worked for former president Lyndon Johnson. The wildly entertaining and engaging Mary Gordon provides regular commentary for the Austin American Statesman and KUT 90.5, Austin’s public radio station, where her stories and ukulele playing are legendary.
