BCRC Successes
Since it first opened in October 1995 through December 2003, BCRC staff and volunteers have answered over 15,000 calls and visits to our office for assistance. Most of our callers and visitors came from Austin and the surrounding counties, although we have assisted callers from out of the area and out of state with information and resources.
In addition to these initial 15,000 contacts, clients who could benefit from talking to a peer support person were matched with a breast cancer survivor who had faced similar circumstances. Whenever possible, BCRC staff and volunteers made follow-up calls with each client within 24 hours of their initial contact.
