Cherie Mathews can jump on her Harley and ride with the best of them.

“Yeah, I have a different edge,” she said. “I dress this way, I bike this way, I live this way.”

Mathews’ ‘live and let live’ mindset was helpful when she received her breast cancer diagnosis.

“I didn’t even blink. I went after it,” she said.

A routine mammogram revealed her cancer back in 2000. She charged right ahead to a double mastectomy.

“Quite frankly, I was pretty brave through my battle with cancer, but what really broke me was, I shuffled into my closet and I said, ‘Oh, there’s nothing to wear,’” Mathews said.

Just like she assaulted cancer, this ex-IBMer tackled wardrobe for breast cancer patients. She created a shirt for women made out of a water resistant, wicking material.
