I am an 18 months breast cancer survivor. I am here to tell you that a postive attitude got me through it all. I found one lump in October 2007 (Breast Cancer Month). It was positive for cancer and then the testing began. I have a fabulous surgeon and oncologist. Both are affiliatedwith MD Anderson in Orlando,Fl. I was lucky that my tumor was self contained and had not spread, but I chose a bilateral mastectomy. I figured if it was in one breast it could return in the other.I never was in pain after the surgery, just discomfort. Never took one drop of pain medicine. I went home 12 hours after surgery. For one week I was uncomfortable, but there was no pain. I had a port put in during surgery because I knew Chemo was inevitable. I was terrified about receiving chemo, but IT WAS NOT BAD. I followed all instructions and with a Major positive Attitude, i handled it well. I also had to have Herceptin because my tumor was Node +. It also, was very tolerable. Every hair on my body fell out and all my nails crumbled but guess what!!! Hair is back better than ever and nails are recovering. I would love to be there for support for anyone.
